DJ Mag Top 100 DJ’s 2010

For those of you who aren’t familiar, DJ Mag is one of the most talked about competitions held each year! A ton of our clients are up for voting and below we have some videos for you to check out and motivate you to vote for your favorite DJ! Anyone think Armin can make #1 DJ in the world, 4 years in a row?! I guess we’ll find out!

And for those of you that think all DJ’s do is jump of and down and wave their hands around, feel free to watch this one:

iPhone 4 Coming to Verizon

What has become a running joke in the tech industry may finally be getting serious. According to TechCruch, Apple has placed orders for “millions of CDMA chipsets for a Verizon iPhone run due in December.” The site says the launch will be in January, and the design will largely remain the same–with the exception of the addition of an antenna insulator. Now, a CDMA chip doesn’t guarantee a Verizon Wireless launch. Apple could go with Sprint, but it obviously attract more subscribers off the bat by going with Big Red.

Of course, announcing in January doesn’t mean a Verizon iPhone will go on sale in the same month. The carrier may choose to launch in the middle of the year, since that is when Verizon previously said it would begin rolling out LTE-capable handsets. And I just don’t see Apple launching a device without this higher-speed data capability. I guess we’ll find out more this winter. No wonder AT&T is playing up the BlackBerry Torch and Android, and claims to be the premier Windows Phone 7 carrier. The exclusivity clock must be running out.

Hack pinpoints where you live: How I met your girlfriend

In a Black Hat security conference entitled “How I Met Your Girlfriend,” security researcher Samy Kamkar demonstrated a creepy hack that uses Google Street View data for stalking victims. In a few clicks, he showed how an attacker can track down and find a person’s physical location with alarming accuracy. He doesn’t need IP address information, thanks to Google’s achievement of sending cars through neighborhoods, capturing photos and data, and collecting information on Wi-Fi networks such as MAC addresses.

Help others and let EFX help you.

It’s that time of the year again. We’re giving stuff away!

East Coast EFX believes in giving back to the community and donating to charitable organizations. We are closely involved with the four organizations that are shown in the banner above. We feel that now is the time to throw something together that would not only benefit them, but benefit our loyal clients and followers as well! We know the economy still has not completely recovered from its downturn and we all have our regular bills to pay every month: electric, cell phones, CARS. Well, we want to help you by removing the car payment from that list. Yes, we want to pay your car payment for you!

The details are simple. We have created a donate button at the bottom of this post. We are simply asking you to donate $5 to these charities. We will take all of the money donated the last week of June 2010 and divide it evenly between the charities. We will keep you posted as to how much money has been raised and will provide documentation showing that the money is getting to the proper places.

So, how does your car bill get paid? When you make a donation, your name will be entered into the pool to have your car payment paid for the month of July. All we ask of the winner is for a scanned document of your bill and we will write you a check, with the following restrictions:

  • We do reserve the right to call your financing / leasing company to verify your payment amount.
  • We are limiting the payment to $600. If your car payment is more than that, God bless you and we would like a ride.
  • East Coast EFX reserves the right to make changes to these terms and conditions at any time, but we most likely won’t.

The winner and the amount of money we raised will be displayed on our website the last week of June 2010. Good luck and remember, it really is for a good cause.

DJ Chachi – Summer Mix – 2010 | Get it.

Chachi’s next mix isn’t overwhelming or fast paced; in fact, it’s the perfect tempo for hanging out at the beach or having a backyard barbeque. His goal when making the mix:

“I had a vision of driving on a beautiful sunny summer day, windows down, music up, but lacked the perfect soundtrack that could accompany such a day. That’s when I decided I need to make a chill, laid-back sexy compilation. Nothing overbearing just a mix that takes you to your happy place and puts you in a great mood.

We suggest downloading this. It’s awesome.

Emma Hewitt signed to Armada Music!

Good news for everyone. Australia’s first lady of vocals, the lovely Emma Hewitt, has now been signed to Armada Music! With her enchanting voice she won over thousands of trance souls, working with some of the best artists around to provide the scene a handful of heavyweight anthems.

Emma began her trance adventure in 2007, as she crashed onto the international dance scene as co-writer and featured vocalist on the Chris Lake U.S Billboard #1 (Hot Dance Airplay) smash hit, ‘Carry Me Away’. That’s when Armada Music was firstly introduced to her unmistakable voice, as the track was also featured on Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance 2007 compilation. It didn’t take long before she took the dance scene by storm, collaborating with Cosmic Gate, Serge Devant and several other dance giants.

Eventually, in late 2009, Emma ended up working with no one less than Dutch dance sensation Dash Berlin. ‘Waiting’ turned out to be a grand success, not only crowning the global trance charts and being voted as the number one vocal track in that year’s A State of Trance Top 20, but also recently winning the award for ‘Best Hi-NRG/Euro Track’ at the International Dance Music Awards in Miami. Emma is currently touring the globe alongside Dash Berlin, so be sure to keep an eye on their tourdates!

Armada Music is very much looking forward to working with Emma on the release of her debut artist album.

USB Memory Stick with Built-in PIN keypad? Pretty cool.

Systematic Development Group has released an ultra-secure portable flash drive, fitting a full PIN entry keypad to the USB stick. The Lok-It Secure Flash Drive from comes in two versions, the simpler of which allows five-key PINs to be entered to gain access, with a more sophisticated version featuring 10 keys.

Apart from both using 256-bit AES encryption to secure data, both drives remain encrypted until the correct PIN code is entered at the point it is inserted into computer, which can be Windows, Mac or Linux. Each drive supports two keys, one for the user and one for an admin.

The drive design resists physical attacks by surrounding the chip on which the encryption PIN is held in an epoxy resin that breaks the chip if tampered with. Brute force PIN hacking is blocked by a maximum of ten logins attempts after which the drive has to be reformatted.

In other respects, apart from its aluminium case and dust and water resistance, the drive is identical to any other USB stick, coming in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB capacities.

According to Systematic Development’s John Tate, most customers are plumping for the most secure, 10-digit model, attracted by the design’s different take on USB stick security. The majority of the company’s rivals used a design that involved authenticating a user’s login using a driver layer on the computer, something that was vulnerable to keyloggers, he said.

The Lok-It’s design advantage over conventional encrypted USB keys is hard to argue with; the key remains inside the drive and is never transferred to the computer, which would be a theoretical moment of vulnerability.

Tate’s characterization of rival designs as insecure is not entirely without supporting evidence. In January, three vendors of supposedly secure USB sticks admitted that the encryption on their drives was vulnerable to a theoretical attack that could render data insecure. Not all the products mentioned were current but the warning over design assumptions was clear.

A second bonus is the Lok-It’s OS-independent design, which means it can be plugged into any computer that supports USB storage. That also rules out the need for additional software.

At first sight, a slight disadvantage appears to be awkwardness of plugging a PIN into a drive while it is docked with a computer, but Tate confirmed that the code can be entered in advance of mounting the drive. Interestingly, expense doesn’t seem to be a major issue—the 4GB drive costs $62, in line with other corporate-level encrypted USB sticks.

Lok-It’s makers have posted a video on YouTube explaining the design and doing the dirty on some of its rivals.

A State of Trance 2010

Here is a brand new vodcast for Armin Van Buuren! Exclusively showing a preview for his latest album, A State of Trance 2010! Enjoy!

Armin van Buuren awarded with Gouden Harp

Champagne for everyone – cause Armin van Buuren has been distinguished with a Gouden Harp award, the highest distinction a Dutch artist can get! Last night, during the Buma Harpen Gala, the DJ/producer received the important prize.

Candy Dulfer, saxophonist and Gouden Harp-winner of 2008, presented the much wanted oeuvre-prize to Armin. The Gouden Harp (‘Golden Harp’ in English) is an award for music composers and artists that made an extraordinary contribution to Dutch music. Some of the previous winners are Krezip, Within Temptation and Ilse DeLange, artists with who Armin has collaborated with. After the presentation, Armin gave a performance with VanVelzen and Within Tempation lead singer Sharon den Adel, supported by the Metropole Orchestra.

The Gouden Harp, that’s been awarded since 1962, is part of the Buma Harpen Gala. The Gala is an initiative of Buma Cultuur, founded by Buma/Stemra; the institution that takes care of the interests of music authors in the Netherlands. Buma Cultuur plays a big part in the promotion of Dutch music in and outside of The Netherlands.

For more info on the Gouden Harp prize, check the Buma Cultuur website.

I owe a huge thank you to Bryan Hamilton at East Coast EFX for creating such a visually appealing and functional layout for the site. They knew exactly what to do when I realized that the old NiLLB was outgrowing its humble beginnings at Blogspot.

What started as a simple Instant Message sent to Bryan asking “yo u know a good place to buy a domain” turned into us teaming up to rebuild the site from the ground up. Our goals were to make music easily available with direct, fast downloads, and to not overwhelm people with too much content. The minimalistic layout and the continuity of site make it easier for NiLLB to serve its purpose: spreading good music.

It’s been an incredibly rewarding process. Seeing the site move from a vision into a finished product has been an amazing thing to witness. I’m extremely fortunate to have such a capable team of people for the site, who share the same passion as I do for music and visual design. We are very excited to grow the site, so please share NiLLB with your friends if you’ve enjoyed it.
